Abstract

In processes of treating gases containing substances having a tendency to resinify or polymerize with solid adsorbents, such polymerization &c. is reduced by the use of artificially moulded active carbons having an apparent specific gravity not exceeding 0,36, and preferably below 0,32, referred to the dry ash-free carbon. Suitable carbons may be obtained by separating a lighter fraction from a given batch of carbon by a gravity separating treatment, such as winnowing. The carbons preferably also have an ash content not exceeding 2 per cent, and preferably below 0,5 per cent. Specification 245,912, [Class 1 (i)], is referred to.
