Abstract
465,143. Adjustable shaft-couplings. M. R. C., Ltd., and CARTER, W. A. Nov. 2, 1935, No. 30347. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXVIII] A connection for securing a member 4 provided with a helical rib 3 to another member 13 comprises a coil 5 fitting between the turns of the rib and projecting radially beyond the rib to form an abutment for a threaded sleeve 10 screwing into a socket 9 in member 13. Member 4 extends into a bore 7 in member 13, the inner end of the coil bearing against a shoulder 8. When member 10 is tightened, the coil, which is preferably of mild or spring steel wire, clamps the rib 3 and prevents relative rotation of members 4, 13, but when member 10 is loosened, axial adjustment between members 4, 13 may be effected by screwing member 4 through the coil. The invention is applicable generally, but as described member 13 is a driving or driven member and 4 is a power transmission shaft, for example of the type disclosed in Specification 380,204.
