Abstract
946,135. Conduits. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. March 30, 1962 [March 30, 1961], No. 11748/61. Heading H2C. [Also in Division F2] In looking means for preventing relative rotational movement between two coaxially arranged internally and externally threaded components 3, 4 of an end fitting intended to screw on to and into the end of a flexible conduit 1, the end of the conduit being gripped between the components when the latter are fully tightened to provide a good seal, an internally splined locking ring 12 slidably mounted upon an externally splined part of one of the two components is in locking engagement with the other component to prevent relative rotation between the two components, and there are means for locating the locking ring in the locking position thereof. As shown, the nipple 3 and ferrule 4 have conical parts 5, 6 between which the flared end of the helically convoluted conduit is gripped, there being a sealing washer 7 received in an annular groove in the part 5. The locking ring 12 which is slid axially into the operative position thereof is formed with a tongue 14, Fig. 1, for engagement in a notch 15 in a coupling nut 9 for securing the nipple 3 to a multi-pin or multi-socket head 8. A circlip 17 seated in a groove 18 in the ring 12 has the ends thereof projecting through slots 21 in the ring so that those ends lie between the flanges 10, 11 of the nipple 3 and ferrule 4. In modifications, (a) the circlip is compressed in a groove in the flange 10 of the nipple and expands into an internal groove of the ring 12 when the latter is slid into position; (b) relative rotation between the nipple 3 and part 8 is prevented by interengaging serrations 16, Fig. 3, on the adjacent end faces of those parts, the circlip being mounted in an external groove 22 in the ferrule and engaging the adjacent end of the ring 12 and (c). The locking ring 30, Fig. 6, has internal splines co-operating with splines 27 on the nipple 3 and a projecting tongue 31 engaging a notch 32 in the ferrule, the nipple having a screw-threaded part 28 which is passed through a hole in a panel 26 and receives a nut 29. According to the Provisional Specification the circlip may be replaced by a taper pin.
