[Class 143] Relates to a weighing-apparatus for measuring predetermined quantities of flowable substance and comprising a weighbeam, a supply control valve and a striker for closing same, the striker being adapted, when the predetermined load has been reached, to become unbalanced, and consists in that the striker 17 is pivotally attached to the weighbeam 8 at the fulcrum thereof and, when unbalanced rests on a support separate from the weighbeam so that equilibrium of the latter is not substantially affected by the overbalancing of the striker. As shown in an arrangement for weighing out gases, an empty vessel 11 is placed on the platform 1 and balanced (together with the effect of a flexible pipe 12) by a tare poise 10 and suspended chain 13. A poise weight 15 is adjusted on the weighbeam to the weight of gas required and the valve 20 is opened. When the weight of gas reaches the predetermined load, the weighbeam rises from a support 16, and overbalances the striker 17 which falls on to a detent 25 and permits the valve to close under spring action. The initial position of the striker may be adjusted by means of a screw 19 carried by an upstanding arm on the weighbeam. According to the Provisional Specification the hammer may be pivoted on a downwardly extending arm of the weighbeam, the head of the hammer being more or less at the level of the weighbeam.
