Pendulum-weight apparatus; beams.-In a weighing-apparatus the tare beam for supplementary weights is freely suspended by a member depending from a fixed part of the apparatus, and is also freely suspended by a member or members depending from a part which, whilst being movable by the weighing mechanism, is held against 'lateral movement relative to the fixed part. The tare beam or steelyard 1 has a fixed counterweight 2 and a sliding weight 3 or a hanger 4 with supplementary weights 5 or a scale pan 6 or any of these alternatives in combination. The pivot D of the beam is suspended from a fixed point A by a link 8. A second parallel link 10 is pivoted at one end C to the beam and, at the other end B, is pivoted to a. push or pull rod 9 connected to the weighing and indicating mechanisms. The rod 9 is prevented from moving laterally, and thus if the apparatus is placed slightly out of level, the parallel links 8, 10 and the beam swing, for example, into the positions shown by dotted lines and the proportions of the turning moments acting on the beam remain unaltered and the accuracy of the weight indications remains unaffected. In a modification, the pivot B, instead of being mounted directly on the rod 9, is suspended from the rod by an additional link, and the pivots A, B are connected by a further link.
