Abstract

Balances, links and stays for.-Relates to a counter-scale of the kind wherein a scale-beam supports the platter on two knife-edge bearings, and consists in an arrangement of a check link beneath the scale-beam whereby inaccuracies due to wear of knife-edges, settling of the cement about the bearings, and like influences are minimized. The check line 9, Fig. 1, comprises two rods spaced apart, Fig. 3, and pivoted at one end to a rod 12 swinging from the scale-beam 4, and at the other end to the usual shift post 14 adjustably mounted in the base horn 3 in vertical alinement with the fulcrum of the beam 4. Riveted to the check link are two U-shaped brackets 19 each provided with oppositely-directed knifeedges 21, 23. One of these brackets 19 engages with a V-shaped bearing on the shift post 14, and with a plate 17 attached to the shift post. The other bracket 19 similarly engages a rod 6<a> (and attached plate 17<1>) depending from the platter; but, instead of a V-shaped bearing, the rod 6a is provided with a vertical face whereby relative vertical movement between the rod 6<a> and the link 9 is permitted In a modification, the check link 9 is extended beyond the shift post. 14, and the end of the extended portion is pivotally connected to the beam 4 by a suspension link, the connexion between the shift post 14 and the check link 9 being made to permit of relative vertical movement in the same manner as that of the rod 6<a>. In a further modification of the construetion shown in Fig. 1, the lower end of the rod 6<a> is forked and slidably engages a ball bearing on the check link, a ball-bearing connexion being also provided between the shift post 14 and the check link.
