Abstract

A stiffening lining for use in collars, cuffs, shirt-fronts and the like is obtained by treating fabric or paper with vinyl resins which will soften and lose their adhesive properties below 100 DEG C. when washed, and recover them when hot ironed, together with at least 5 per cent of a filler such as zinc oxide. This ensures that the stiffening lining is cleaned during washing. The resin preferably softens at 60--80 DEG C., and different vinyl resins may be mixed to attain this temperature. In an example, a cotton fabric is impregnated with a solution of vinyl resin sold under the trade name "Resonyl N.M." in benzol, with zinc oxide.
