Abstract

464,045. Stemming blasting-cartridges ADDISON, W. Oct. 11, 1935, No. 28075. [Class 9 (i)] A process of filling shot holes for blasting consists in inserting an explosive charge 5 into the distal end of the shot hole, inserting a distance piece 7 dimensioned according to the capacity of air cushion required with its distal end in abutment with the proximal end of the charge, inserting an inner wedge-shaped plug section 4 with its thick end in abutment with the proximal end of the distance piece, inserting an outer wedge-shaped plug section 3 with its wedge face in engagement with the wedge face of the first plug section, driving the - second plug section by means of a rod forcibly into engagement with the first causing the plug as a whole to expand laterally into j amming engagement with the shot hole, then ramming stemming material 8 such as clay into the proximal end of the shot hole, a fuze or electric conductor 9 from the explosive charge being led through or around the plug to the proximal end of the shot hole.
