Abstract

463,885. Manhole covers. BROWN, H., and BROWN, R. Jan. 20, 1936, No. 1765. [Class 107] The key-holes C in a manhole cover B or the like are normally closed by spring-urged plungers F which lie flush with the upper surface of the cover. In the construction shown, each plunger has a tapering square base E which slides in a similarly shaped chamber D in the cover. The springs H fit over a projection G on each plunger and engage in a cylinder J formed on bases K attached to the chambers D. When a plunger is depressed by the key it is guided by the engagement of its projection with the cylinder J and is prevented from rotating by the engagement of its square base with the walls of the chamber. The base and chamber may be of any other non-circular section.
