Abstract

463,753. Motor-vehicle steering-gear. REIK, H. Feb. 1, 1936, No. 3120. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1935. [Class 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] The steering-gear of a motor vehicle is fitted with a reversing device which is put into operation on rearward travel of the vehicle so that the impression obtained by viewing the path of travel in a rear-view optical arrangement provided in front of the driver enables the latter to operate the steering-wheel as in forward travel of the vehicle. The steering- reversing gearing 2 which may be operated on movement of the change-speed lever into reverse position, comprises a claw-clutch 11, Fig. 3, slidable on the grooved end of the steering-column and adapted to be actuated by one arm of a lever 3 so that, e.g. on forward travel, it engages a toothed gear 14 fixed to a shaft 10<1> to rotate the shaft in one direction while for rearward travel it engages a toothed gear 13 adapted to rotate the shaft 10<1> through gearing 12, 14 in the opposite direction.
