Abstract
463,454. Electric discharge tube signs. CLAUDE-GENERAL NEON LIGHTS, Ltd., and HIGGINS, C. Nov. 21, 1935, No. 32330. [Class 3 (ii)] A sign of the kind in which one or more discharge tubes 5 shaped as characters are mounted in front of a plate 1 having inscribed thereon characters 2 corresponding to the shaped portions of the tube, is characterized in that the electrical supply apparatus associated with the tube is housed in a casing 3 extending along one edge of the sign plate, whilst the portions 6 of the tube adjacent its electrode chambers 7 extend along or adjacent opposite edges of the plate towards the casing 3 and are enclosed in housings 8. These housings are attached to the casing 3 and together with this casing are slotted to receive the plate 1. The portions 6 of the tube may lie in the plane of the plate and light therefrom pass through the edge of the plate when this is of glass, to illuminate characters 2 etched in the glass. Alternatively, the portions 6 may lie in front of the plate and the slots in the housings 8 made of such a width as to allow light from these portions to illuminate characters 2 formed in relief on the plate 1.
