Abstract
An electric resistance consists of two or more heat-refractory heavy metal oxides having space-lattices of different types with substantially different spacing of the atoms or molecules, excluding the rare earth metal oxides and zirconium oxide, the oxides being intimately united by melting or sintering. By "heavy metals" are meant metals heavier than aluminium. It is stated that the resistance so produced has at room temperature a specific resistance higher than that of any of the oxides taken separately. The value of the temperature coefficient of the composition may be controlled, e.g. by mixing an oxide having a positive coefficient, e.g. cadmium oxide, with an oxide having a negative coefficient. In examples, the following combinations are used: (1) equal proportions of cadmium oxide and ferroso-ferric oxide, sintered at about 1300 DEG C.; (2) copper oxides plus bismuth oxide, Bi2O3; (3) cadmium oxide, chromium oxide and lead monoxide, the lead monoxide being a flux which may be partly or wholly removed in the burning. Specifications 165,051, 165,052, and 179,928, [all in Class 22], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the use of copper chromate instead of an oxide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
