Abstract
463,081. Lifting - jacks. LAKE & ELLIOTT, Ltd., and BATE, H. A. Oct. 3, 1935, No. 27306. [Class 78 (iii)] In a fluid -pressure lifting - jack the ram is connected positively to an operating plunger so that retraction is not dependent upon the action of the load. Fig. 4 shows a ram 7 which is forced downwards in the casing 8 by air, oil, semi-solid grease or the like forced through the tube 5 which leads to the actuating mechanism shown in Fig. 3. The latter comprises a plunger 13 moved by handoperated screw-mechanism 17 or by hydraulic power. The plunger is connected to the ram by a member 10 which may be rigid or flexible and may comprise a wire, rod chain or the like, which retracts the ram concurrently with the retraction of the plunger. The connecting - member may have a spring interposed between its upper end and the plunger to take up any slackness due to difference in the rate of travel of the ram and the plunger, and to keep the member under tension after leakage has occurred. Reduction gearing may be fitted between the handoperated gear and the plunger.
