Abstract

462,431. Moulding concrete pipes. NORMAN, J. W. E. June 4, 1936, No. 15621. [Class 87 (ii)] In machines for insulating concrete pipes wherein gravity-fed concrete is consolidated and moulded in a shell 6 by a verticallymovable rotating plug 17 mounted on a shaft 19 carrying an electric motor 21, " whip " is prevented from taking place in the shaft 19 by a floating yoke 23 carried by the shaft and guided in the vertical columns 2 of the framework. The movement of the yoke is limited by stops 24, 25. The weight of the plug, shaft, and electric motor is counterweighted, as is also the weight of a handoperated table 9 for centring the mould 6. The machine may be used for moulding spigotended pipes, a mould 6, Fig. 3, having a belled base 34 and an inner base ring 35 then being used. The plug 17 having the usual inclined presser elements 33 is lowered on to the ring 35 and concrete enters the spigot space where it is consolidated by an electrically-operated vibrator 36 detachably mounted on the base 34.
