[Class 69 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] Apparatus for delivering liquids in predetermined quantities comprises two measuring containers, distributing valves operated by the overflow of excess liquid from the containers, setting means for determining the quantity to be delivered, means for restoring the setting means to initial position, and means for closing an inlet valve when the predetermined quantity has been delivered. In order to set the apparatus ready for delivering a predetermined quantity of liquid, a key 139, Fig. 8, is used to set a pointer 142 on a dial 138, a drum 119 loose on a shaft 101 being simultaneously turned to a corresponding position, and a cam disc 129 acting through a lever 108 and rod 112 to open a valve 59, Fig. 1, so that liquid delivered from a pump 20 can pass through a pipe 51, Fig. 2, a tank 16, a pipe 51, the valve 59 and pipes 55, 57 to one of the measuring chambers 6, 7. When the chamber is full, the overflow passes down a pipe 35, Fig. 7, pipes 154, 157 allowing separated air to escape, to one or the other of a pair of containers 37, 38 in a tank 15 having a return 19 to the supply reservoir. The containers 37, 38 are connected by rods 39, 40 and links to the opposite ends of a lever 106 on the shaft 101, so that the descent of a filled container rocks the shaft in one direction or the other. At the end of its descent, a pin 50 opens a valve 49 and allows the container to empty. The shaft 101 operates a shaft 68, Fig. 4, through a lever 100 connected to rods 98, 99, joined by a chain 97 passing over a toothed wheel 95 on the shaft 68. The initial movement of the shaft 68 acts through a pinion 82 and toothed segments 81, Fig. 6, to close the discharge valve 76, 77 of the empty measuring chamber 6 or 7. Next, a notch 93 acts through engagement with a projection from a lever 92 to turn a sleeve, so as to close the inlet valve 65 or 66, Fig. 3, of the filled chamber and open that of the empty chamber. Finally the discharge valve of the filled chamber is opened. Should the discharge chamber not be empty, a projection 168 carried by a float 165 engages a sector 84 and prevents movement of the shaft 68. The measuring chambers have additional inlet valves 63, 64 connected by levers with their discharge valves. The movement of the shaft 101 also acts through pawls to return the drum 119 cam disc 129, and pointer 142 through one step towards their initial or zero positions and recesses on the drum periphery act through a lever 146 on a counter 144. The action continues until the predetermined quantity has been delivered, when the counterweighted lever 108 falls into a recess in the cam disc, and the valve 59 is closed. Leakage liquid returns to the supply tank through pipes 177, 179 and tank 15 ; when delivery has ceased, the liquid remaining in a measuring chamber and its supply pipes also return through a pipe 173 and the tank 15.
