Abstract
285,060. Soc. Hardoll. Feb. 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Liquid meters.-In apparatus for delivering measured quantities of petrol &c., of the kind having two chambers 1, 2 alternately emptying and filling under the control of a valve 10 connected to reversing mechanism 8 operable by the pressure of the liquid in the chamber being filled, the liquid is discharged from the chambers 1, 2 through a pipe 13 and chamber 21 containing a float 22, which carries a stop 24 adapted, when the discharge is complete, to engage the end of a rod 16 and open a valve 15 on the pipe 12 between the pump and the chambers 1, 2. The empty chamber can then start to fill and the full chamber to empty. The arrangement ensures that the discharging chamber is quite empty before the other even begins to discharge. In another form, the supply pipe from the pump communicates with a return pipe when the valve 15 is closed, and the movement of this valve is controlled by a damping device.
