Abstract
462,000. Fuzes and fuze compositions. SOSSON, C. E., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 29, 1935, No. 24193. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] A substantially gasless delay composition for use in sealed casings comprises - a mixture of antimony, zinc, and potassium permanganate, to which may be added a small proportion of an inert inorganic material such as lead chromate or zinc oxide. The composition is filled into a lead tube and compressed by drawing the tube to a smaller diameter. A short length 3 of such a tube filled with the composition 4 is inserted in a detonator 1 between the main charge 2 and an electric fuze head 7 situated in a fire-proof paper sleeve 5, as described in Specification 428,872. This is covered by a rubber plug 8 followed by a bituminous composition 11. The casing is crimped at 10 around the rubber plug.
