Abstract

461,223. Trueing grinding - wheels. JUNG, K. May 12, 1936, No. 13440. [Classes 60 and 124] A device for trueing grinding-wheels wherein the profile of a template is reproduced on the wheel by means of a diamond &c. tool operated through scale-reducing gearing, comprises means whereby the movement of the tool in the direction radially of the wheel is not reduced, whilst the movement across the periphery of the wheel is reduced in any desired ratio. The device comprises a plate a in which are movable two slides b, c, the slide b carrying a template or copy strip d adjustable by screws e, and the slide c carrying a transversely movable carriage f carrying the trueing-tool g. Slidable in the carriage is a stylus h, one end of which engages the strip d, the other end engaging a strip k slidable longitudinally in the carriage. The carriage is pressed upwards by springs q, and the slides b, c have thereon, at one end, teeth engaging a pinion m rotatable by a crank n, so that the slides move in opposite directions, the length of the template being twice the width of the grinding-wheel t, so that the scalereduction is in the ratio of 2 : 1, whilst the radial movement of the tool is not reduced. In order to prevent inaccuracy due to backlash, the tool g is operative during movement in one direction only across the wheel t, and for this purpose the strip k strikes a stop o1 at the end of the operative stroke so that during the return movement the lower end of the stvlus h lies in a notch p in the strip, thus allowing the springs q to lift the carriage f and the tool clear of the work ; at the end of the inoperative stroke, the strip k is moved by a stop o2, so that the tool again moves into the operative position. The gearing may be arranged to give any desired reduction ratio and the slides b, c may move in the same direction; screw gearing may be employed, and the strip d may be stationary.
