Abstract

In a method of guiding filaments, threads, or yarns whilst conveyed with their successive convolutions in spaced relationship along rollers over which they are helically wound, the filaments, threads or the like are passed over a guide bar interposed between said rollers, the surface of which bar not only intersects the plane containing the axis of the rollers or a plane symmetrical thereto but also a plane at right angles thereto and parallel to each roller axis. A thread or filament 1 passes from a source of supply over a guide bar 2 to rotating roller 3 and thence in spaced convolutions over fixed guide bar 4 and rotating rollers 3, 5. In a modification two fixed guide bars may be provided with a guide eye or hook to help the transfer of the filament from one to the other. In a modification shown in Figs. 5, 6, skew rollers 11, 12 are provided with two guide bars 9, 10. In this case the convolutions become nearer together at first due to the skew rollers and the guide bar 9 and then when the bar lies inside the rollers, the difference in pitch is due to the skew rollers only and finally the pitch again decreases as the thread comes on to bar 10. Instead of a fixed bar a freely rotatable roller may be used. Specification 448,774 is referred to.
