Abstract

460,861. Controlling apparatus by light; valve relaying circuits. VEREINIGTE GLUHLAMPEN UND ELECTRICITATS AKT.-GES. Sept. 18, 1935, No. 25944. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1934. Addition to 406,185, [Group XI]. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] [Also in Group XI] In an improvement in or modification of the process described in the parent Specification for sealing off vessels such as electric incandescent lamp bulbs containing gas under superatmosphoric pressure, the incipient change of shape of the gas inlet or pumping tube caused by the heating and the internal gas pressure operates, through the agency of a relay, a tool which effects the closing of the pumping tube. Tn the example the increase in the shadow cast by the pumping tube 5 upon a photoelectric cell 4 operates a relay comprising a gas discharge tube 7 connected through an amplifier 6 to the photo-electric cell, thereby operating an electromagnet 8 which closes jaws 10 upon the softened tube 5 and seals it off just when it is expanding. The closing of the jaws simultaneously opens an automatic switch 11 which must be closed before another tube is sealed off.
