Abstract
460,817. Dental impression trays. ARMSTRONG, J..J. V. (Kalvin, L.) Feb. 27, 1936, No. 5831. [Class 81 (ii)] A dental impression tray comprises a pressed body of sized cellulosic fabric, such as woven fabric or felted or moulded pulp, having a water-absorbent inner surface which does not adhere to the moist plaster, and a waterrepellent outer surface, produced, for example, by a collodion spray. In making the tray, two layers, for example, of three-ply buckram, already united by sizing such as starch, tapioca, glue or dextrin, are soaked, superposed and shaped in a heated die press. The outer surface is then waterproofed. A single heavy ply may alternatively be used. The tray is preferably formed with partition ridges 14, 16 to stiffen it and to weaken the plaster on definite lines to facilitate fracture. Parting fins for excluding plaster from parts of the impression, for example, where teeth are missing, may be disposed in slits in the tray. The fins, of semihard rubber or similar material, may take the form shown in Fig. 6, and are cut from a strip, Fig. 4. Due to the elongation of the web portion 17 when pulled through the slit, and the subsequent contraction, the fin is firmly fixed in position. A fin having a wedge-shaped head 22, for use in the ridges 14, 16 is shown in Fig. 2. The open mesh reinforcement disclosed in Specification 415,264 may be used in combination with the present tray.
