Abstract
460,751. Compound fabrics. SCHOFIELD, W. D. June 17, 1936, No. 16801. [Class 140] The layers of a compound fabric are united by a cellulose derivative adhesive applied as an openwork pattern by printing on one or both of each pair of contacting surfaces, allowed to dry, and activated by a comparatively weak solvent, e.g. a mixture of acetone and methylated spirits before applying heat and pressure. The pattern may comprise spots, continuous or dotted parallel or intersecting lines, or floral or geometrical designs. In an example, shirting such as poplin or cambric, plain or with a printed or woven pattern, is printed in intersecting diagonal lines with cellulose acetate dissolved in acetone, and subsequently united with a. plain or similarly printed fabric. A fabric may be printed on both sides and subsequently united to two outer plain or printed fabrics. The fabrics may be cut into blanks for collars, cuffs, &c. before uniting and before or after printing.
