Abstract
460,553. Alighting places for aircraft. WEICHARDT, R. April 27, 1936, Nos. 11941 and 11942. Convention dates, April 27, 1935 and Feb. 20, 1936. [Class 4] A towable, floating platform for the starting and alighting of land aircraft on water comprises layers of wood, cork, or like buoyant material which are assembled on a thin steel or similar metal plate arranged substantially in the neutral plane to form a single solid platform of small depth. The platform may be constituted by a hollow iron or steel structure The platform may be connected to the deck of an aircraft carrier. The kinetic-energy of the aircraft, on alighting, may be destroyed by hooks on the aircraft which engage with cross-stretched spring or yielding ropes d. The stretching devices may be housed in the space p. Further hooks on the aircraft may be provided to anchor it to the platform. In another construction, wood strips are provided and form friction holds. The fore end of the platform may be bevelled, upturned, or provided with an adjustable aerofoil surface. In the latter case, propelling devices are provided and the supports for the surface house the power plant.
