[Class 108 (i)] In under frames for a combined vehicle chassis and body the centre portion, which is the full width of the body, is constructed from an upper plate having an arched tunnel portion and a lower plate each plate having corresponding channel pressings at the sides to form box-shaped longitudinal girders when the plates are in assemble position. The lower plate 1 is provided with channel portions 3 while the upper plate comprises two portions 2a, 2b, also provided at their outer edges with channel portions 4 which form box-section girders with the channels 3. The channel portions 4 of the upper part plates are extended transversely at each end of the centre portion to form with the lower plate transverse box shaped members, the channel sections 4 ai the front combining at 5. A tunnel section 7 is welded to the upper part plates 2a, 2b, and also to transverse box members 17 which are continuous and pass over the member 7. The front members 9 upon which the engine is mounted are situated as shown and are also of box-section being reinforced where they enter the centre portion of the underframe by shoes 10. The rear plate 12 is arched to accommodate the wheels and is also formed with U-shaped channels 12a to the top of which U-shaped plates 13 are welded, the plates 13 being branched as shown at 13a, 13b and welded to the portions 4 and to the tunnel 7. The upper plate 12 is also provided with bulged portions 15 and with an arched portion 16 which is welded to the tunnel 7. The plate 12 is also welded to the lower plate 1 at the point where the rear springs are connected. A transverse box-section heel plate 18 is provided. Cut away portions 8 are provided in the upper part plates 2a, 2b.
