459,641. Coin-freed article-delivery apparatus. BRUS, G. J., 19, Van Tuyll van Serooskerkenweg, Amsterdam. May 20, 1936, No. 14309. [Class 27] Relates to coin-freed vending machines of the kind comprising a number of compartments 2, closed by hinged doors 4, any one, but only one of which can be opened at will after insertion of a coin. According to the invention, the mutual locking mechanism for the doors is housed wholly in an enclosed space extending along one side of the compartments and entirely separated therefrom by one of the side walls, the swinging doors being pivotally mounted on shafts 6 which extend through that side wall into the enclosed space. The shaft 6 for each door bears a segment 7, the curved surface of which in all positions of the door is directed towards the inner side of the machine. The segments 7 coact with locking pieces 11 slidable transversely through slots in a rod 8 which is provided with a longitudinal slot 10 holding vertically slidable blocking members 12, one for each compartment. When a door is opened, the corresponding locking piece 11 is pushed in to separate a pair of blocking members 12 thereby preventing any of the other doors from being opened. None of the blocking members can be moved unless a coin has first been inserted to release them for movement.
