[Class 27] Articles stored in separate compartments.- In a coin-freed vending machine comprising goods compartments 2 closed by shutters 4 controlled by locking pieces 11 insertable between a row of blocking members 12 held in engagement by a spring 22 whereby only one shutter can be opened after the blocking members have been freed for displacement by insertion of a coin, each locking piece remains with a part projecting between two successive blocking members when its shutter is closed, and is held in contact with a blocking member and an operating part, e.g. a quadrant 7, secured to the shutter, under the action of the spring 22. The blocking members are thus separated, and the remaining shutters locked immediately a shutter is opened. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the blocking members are carried in a channelled guide 8 which, together with the shutter quadrants 7, are located in a compartment of the main casing to one side of the compartments 2. Each locking piece has a bevelled surface 16 permanently in engagement with a corresponding surface 21 of the lower co-operating blocking member 12, so that, when the locking piece is displaced by the opening of its shutter, all the lower blocking members are moved downwardly to lock all the shutters below that opened. Each locking piece also has a rectangular recess 10 normally opposite a similar clearance recess 20 in the upper cooperating blocking member so that, when the locking piece is displaced, the part lying behind its recess 10 enters the recess 20 in the blocking member and prevents downward movement of all the upper blocking members and consequently opening of any shutter above that first opened. In the modification of Fig. 5, the locking pieces 11 have no rectangular recesses, but lock the upper blocking members by engagement with their lowermost surfaces 18.
