Abstract

484,435. Coin - freed article - delivery apparatus. HAERSOLTE, W. VAN. April 30, 1937, No. 12363. Convention date, April 30, 1936. [Class 27] Articles are stored in compartments arranged in pairs of columns 2, 3, Fig. 1, which are coupled together to move up and down in opposite directions past doors 8, 9 in a casing 1, means being provided for unlocking each of these doors by the insertion of coins of predetermined value so as to obtain the articles in the selected compartments. The columns are connected by a chain 7 passing over pulleys 4 and a chain wheel connected to a hand wheel 5. Coin-action, weight.-The doors 8, 9, Fig. 4, are hinged vertically and have extensions 10, 11 respectively which are normally engaged by the front ends of levers 12, 13 to hold the doors closed, these levers being pivoted at 15, 16 and passing respectively through holes in vertical levers 18, 19, Fig. 3, pivoted at 17 and forming the armatures of electromagnets 20, 21. Rails 32, 33 having notches 34 move with the columns and, when a compartment is correctly positioned in front of a door, a spring-pressed roll 35, carrying a mercury switch 36, enters a pair of notches in the rails thereby closing an electric circuit at the switch. The switch 36 is in series with mercury switches 37 associated with the magnets 20, 21, these switches 37 being carried by levers 38 which normally enter respectively the coin shoots 25, 26 corresponding to the columns. If the purchaser desires an article selected from column 2, he inserts a coin through a tester 24 into the shoot 25 for that column. The coin engages a pin 40 on the lever 38 of the switch 37 provided for that column and rocks the switch to close the circuit of magnet 20, the coin being detained in the shoot by resting on a pin 30 carried by lever 18. The magnet 20 pushes the lever 18 causing the pin 30 to leave the shoot and allow the coin to drop to a monev-box 27. The movement of the lever 18 also rocks the lever 12, which frees the door 8. The door extension 10 is connected to the lever 12 by a spring 14 so that the door is thereby opened. The rear end of the lever 12, when it is rocked, enters one of the notches 34 in the rail 32, thereby preventing the columns 2, 3 from being moved while a door is open. Indicators.-The switch 36 controls a circuit of a lamp or bell which indicates when a compartment is correctly located in front of a door.
