Abstract

459,607. Cutting webs. RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. Sept. 11, 1935, No. 25241. [Class 31 (i)] In a cutting device of the type in which a pair of cutting knives are arranged to cooperate with one another during the cutting operation, one of the knives is carried by resilient means. The resilient means comprises flat spring plates 14 which are fixed at their lower ends to blocks 15 mounted on the bed 12 of the machine, and are secured at their upper ends to a block 13 on which the knife 7 is mounted. In order that the tension of the springs 14 may be adjusted, a screw 18 may be provided, co-operating with angle pieces 17, 19 secured to blocks 13, 15 respectively at one or both ends of the knife 7. The knife 6 is secured to an arm 8 which is pivoted at 9 and is oscillated by an eccentric 10. The cutting edge of the knife 6 is inclined to the horizontal, as in Fig. 2, and the two knives 16, 7 are angularly inclined to one another, as shown in Fig. 3, so that as knife 6 descends, knife 7 is pressed back against the action of the spring plates 14, and the cutting edges are kept in contact. The web 5 to be cut may be fed intermittently to the cutting device by any known means.
