Abstract

1,074,682. Cutting tobacco. AMF INTERNATIONAL Ltd. April 14, 1964 [April 17, 1963], No. 15114/63. Heading A4C. In a tobacco cutting machine, wherein tobacco leaves are fed between conveyers (9, 9a) to rotary cutters (2) having cutting edges defining a cylindrical path (4) via a mouthpiece comprising top and bottom members (6, 8) respectively, the bottom member (8) has a top surface which is V- shaped across its width, the vertex of the V being downwardly directed whereby the knives (2) travel first past the ends of the arms of the V and finally past the vertex. The V has a depth (24) which is small in relation to its width, and the line vertex of the V surface extends substantially perpendicularly from the front face. The bottom member (8) comprises a dead plate (10) and a front knock-off member (12) secured by shear screws (18) to a fixed support (14), the dead plate 10 and knock-off member (12) together defining the top surface of the bottom member (8). The bottom surface of the top member may be either flat or V-shaped.
