[Class 145 (i)] In a machine for generating curved surfaces on wood, the cutter z is mounted on the spindle of a motor u carried on one arm of a two-armed lever i pivoted on a pin h carried by a slide f diametrically adjustable on a rotatable disc b, the other arm of the lever i passing through a pivoted sleeve w. The arrangement forms a slider - crank mechanism, rotation of the disc b by a handwheel c causing the cutter to trace out closed curves such as those shown at 6, 8 in Fig. 3, of which generally only a part is used according to whether a concave or convex surface is to be produced. The form of the curves may be varied by adjustment of the mechanism. In the machine shown, the sleeve w is pivoted to a slide x movable on a guide bar y. Curves of different forms may be produced by alternatively securing the slide x on the bar y and allowing the lever i to slide in the sleeve w, or by securing the lever i in the sleeve w and allowing the slide x to move along the bar y. In the latter case, curves asymmetric about a vertical axis may be produced by securing the bar y, which is pivotally mounted, in an inclined position. The motor u is pivotally mounted on a yoke t adjustable along a slide k carried on the arm i and pivotally adjustable about an axis perpendicular to that of the motor mounting. Further, means (not shown) may be provided for adjusting the motor to bring the cutter above or below the pivotal axis of the lever i, the curves 6, 8 corresponding to two such positions of adjustment. The table 19 which carries the work is traversed perpendicularly to the plane of cut to shape an extended surface on the work.
