Abstract

458,895. Controlling shock-absorbers. BECHEREAU, L., 2, Rue Gervex, and CARROUEE, R., 1, Ruo Vauvenargues, both in Paris. April 16, 1936, No. 11000. Convention date, May 27, 1935. [Class 108 (iii)] In a hydraulic shock-absorber of the piston and cylinder type, a cap 5 rotatably mounted on the cylinder is connected with the fluidrestricting device and is adapted to be rotated directly or by remote control means in order to vary the degree of damping. The invention is shown applied to a shock-absorber similar to that described in Specification 436,845. rotation of the cap 5 causing rotation and consequent axial movement of a threaded ring 7 which varies the pressure of Belleville washers 10 on a valve 11 controlling the flow of liquid through orifices 9. The cap is fixed to a sleeve 2 adapted to be rotated directly by means of a milled flange or by a finger movable between stops, or from a distance, for example by a rigid control, a hydraulic device, or as shown in Fig. 5, by a flexible cable having one end of its casing attached to an arm 17 on the cylinder 1 and the adjacent end of the cable proper secured to an arm 16 on the sleeve 2.
