Abstract
<PICT:0458117/III/1> In a short path high vacuum distillation apparatus wherein narrow rectangular blocks or plates 1, 2, form the distilling and condensing surfaces respectively, the plates are supported in a vertical or inclined position by means of a cantilever truss 3 attached to an end plate 4, the assembly being enclosed by a vacuum-tight cylindrical casing 5. Liquid to be distilled is fed to the surfaces 1 by troughs integral therewith, these troughs being supplied from others 9, 8, 7 to ensure even distribution. The residues and distillates are collected in two series of troughs 11 and 12. Hot oil is circulated through the distilling plates and cold water through the condensing plates, which are preferably made larger in area than the former. The supply and withdrawal troughs, hot oil and cold water circulation connections occupy the upper and lower segmental spaces between the bank of plates and outer casing, the side segmental spaces being occupied by molecular diffusion or condensation evacuation pumps 15. All necessary communicating pipes for the accessories pass through the end plate only.
