Abstract

<PICT:0458078/III/1> Electrical apparatus includes an insulating member made by burning a mixture consisting substantially of magnesium oxide or hydroxide and titanium dioxide, so that these materials are converted wholly or partly to magnesium titanate. Alkaline earth compounds and clay may be introduced into the mix. The product may be used as the base-cap 1 of an electron discharge tube 3, the bulb being fixed to the base directly or with the interposition of easily fusible layers, e.g. of glass. The lead-in wires 5 pass through bores 4 in the base cap, fusible glass tubes 6 giving a hermetical closure. Contact members may be fused into the bottom of the base-cap.
