[Class 4] [See also Group XXI] Mechanism for the retraction of an aircraft under-carriage or of bomb or torpedo gear, or for operating slots, flaps or rudder servo bias control comprises a pivoted lever of which one end carries or constitutes the member to be retracted or operated and the other end is formed with a slot in which the free end of a rotatable arm slides, the arrangement being such that the lever and the arm are at right angles to each other in the limiting operated positions. The pivoted lever 12 carrying the wheel 11 or other member to be retracted has the slot 17 engaged by a pin 18 on a lever-arm 19 formed with an arm 20 connected by a rod 21 to a hydraulic cylinder 22. Rotation of the lever 12 is effected by a hydraulic cylinder 27 through a link 26 which engages a lug 26 on the lever. Retraction or extension is effected by liquid fed to the cylinders 22, 27 through pipes 23, 28 or 24, 29. A snap spring 30 secured to a lug 31 on the arm 19, 20 assists the locking action in the extreme positions. In a modification, Fig. 3, applied to flapcontrolling mechanism, the flap 32 forms one arm of a lever, the other end of which has a slot 34 engaged by a pin 35 on an arm 36 carried on a shaft 37 rotated from the cockpit, the arm 36 and the flap-carrying lever being at right.angles in the extreme positions.
