Abstract

457,411. Roller bearings. ENGLISH NEEDLE & FISHING TACKLE CO., Ltd., and KING, G. B., Central Works, Studley, Warwickshire. Sept. 27, 1935, No. 26785. [Class 12 (i)] A roller bearing unit comprises a race ring 11, needle rollers 10, and a sleeve 13 the ends 14 of which are bent to hold the rollers in position. The ends of the rollers may be of cylindrical, conical, parabolic, ellipsoidal, spherical or other rounded form. The race ring 11 may be formed from a strip bent into cylindrical form with the edges meeting in a butt joint of chevron form. Instead of the edges 15 of the sleeve ends 14 being turned inwardly to retain the rollers, annular plates 20, Fig. 11, may be inserted between the ends of the race ring and the sleeve ends 14. In Fig. 11 the bearing has packing rings 26 retained in place by end caps 25 which are split at 27 so that they snap over spring rings 30. Alternatively each cap may have an annular rib to snap into a groove 29. In another modification the race ring 11, Fig. 8, and the sleeve 13 are arranged inwardly of the rollers and the latter are retained by rings 20 fitted with packing rings 24. In all cases the sleeve 13 is preferably of aluminium or other soft metal, and is so dimensioned that it has to be forced into its operative position. Specification 457,412 is referred to.
