Abstract
457,078. Thermostats. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES), Ltd., S., Cricklewood, and GROSE, F. J., 11, Slough Lane, Kingsbury, both in London. Dec. 6, 1935, No. 33892. [Class 135] A thermostatically operated valve device especially adapted for use in the cooling systems of internal combustion engines is constructed as a unit for insertion in a fluid conduit. The thermal bellows 10 is secured in a stirrup 12 the arms of which are secured to a ring 13 provided with a flange 15 for clamping between two parts of the fluid conduit. The upper edge of the ring 13 forms a seat for a lift valve member 18 mounted on a spindle 16 secured to the movable wall of the bellows and guided by a cross-bar 17. A second valve member 21 controlling a bypass is formed on an arm 20 pivoted to one of the arms of the stirrup and is coupled by a pin and slot to a bracket on the spindle 16. This valve member co-operates with an inclined seat 27 and is arranged to close as the valve 18 opens.
