Abstract

456,772. Floors. CULLUM, D. J. W., Connaught House, Connaught Gardens, Muswell Hill, London. May 17, 1935, No. 14468. [Class 20 (iv)] A floor comprises resilient strips or pads A spaced apart on a base B for supporting the floor joists D, a layer of slabs E which are disposed in spaced relation to the base B and the floorboards F carried by the joists D, and a layer e<2> of corrugated paper, felted paper, or other soft material packed in the space between the slabs E and the floorboards F. The strips A may be secured at spaced distances to the joists which are provided with shoulders d<1> to support the slabs E; or the joists may be supported on the slabs E which then rest directly upon the strips A. Instead of providing a separate layer e<2> between each pair of joists, this layer may be continuous over the whole surface, including the joists, and the floor boards are then nailed to the joists so as to compress the adjacent parts of the layer e<2>. The layer e<2> is of sufficient thickness to ensure that the whole of the underside of the floor boards press equally against the slabs. Specification 399,647 is referred to.
