Abstract
456,671. Water gas generation. COUTTS & CO., 440, Strand, London, and JOHNSON, F., 218, Victoria Drive, Eastbourne, [Representatives of JOHNSON, J. Y.]. -(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges. ; Frankforton-Main, Germany) June 4, 1935, No. 16166. [Class 55 (i)] In the continuous production of water gas, the lower part of the producer is divided by separating walls 3 into a number of narrow gasefication chambers 2 into which the steam is introduced through channels 9 and inlets 10, and from which the ashes are discharged by rollers 8. The steam is heated to 1100‹ C. and the water gas passes up into the wide chamber 11, part being withdrawn through a channel 4, and outlet 5, and part passing through the upper part of the charge the low temperature distillates from which issue with the water gas through an outlet 6. In a modification Fig. 4, the separating walls are provided with heating flues 13 fed from regenerators, the waste hot gases being used to superheat the steam which may be reduced in quantity. A gas suitable for hydrogen recovery may be withdrawn from the outlet 5. To the steam may be added waste gases from destructive hydrogenation of coal, coke oven gases, natural gases or waste gases from the conversion of hydrocarbons with steam. In addition, small amounts of oxygen may be added. To obtain a water gas rich in carbon dioxide, the fuel may be cooled by blowing in non-superheated steam above the gasefication zone proper.
