Abstract

456,311. Frequency-changing. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. April 20, 1936, No. 11282. Convention date, April 20, 1935. [Class 38 (ii)] [See also Groups VI and XXXVI] Electric apparatus for exercising body muscles comprises two transformers 110, 111, having their primaries in parallel and their secondaries in series-opposition. Transformer 110 has a saturated core and transformer 111 a non-saturated core. The arrangement is such that only the third and higher odd harmonics of the fundamental frequency are induced in the secondary circuit the fundamental frequency being suppressed, such suppression being assisted by the provision of a rheostat in the primary circuit of transformer 110. The secondary circuit includes means for adjusting the intensity of the induced current, and also varying it rhythmically, comprising an inductance 112, connected to the patient by leads 13, 16, and having a two-part core 117, 118. Part 117 is adjustable manually by a knob 27 connected to a cam 26 actuating a rod 25 against the action of a spring 24. Part 118 is reciprocated by a cam 21 acting on a rod 22 against a spring 23, the cam being driven at a variable speed by an electric motor 113 connected to the mains through a rheostat 115.
