[Class 38 (v)] The clip-and-blade contacts described ir the parent Specification are modified by causing the lower member or the screwed stem tc bear against an inclined face of a guided member which is thereby forced laterally on rotation of the screwed stem so that the blades of the plug member are forced against the fixed contact jaws. As shown a cylindrical nut e on the stem d bears at one side on the inclined face g<1> of a member g which has a forked portion embracing the screwed stem and an upper face bearing on the relatively fixed block c through which the stem passes. Thus when the locking handle f is screwed up after the plug member has been inserted the block g is forced sideways so bearing on the inner side of a movable blade g<3> supported on a cross-pin c<3> and acted upon by a spring c<4> at its upper end. This spring is overpowered, however as the stem is tightened up and the blade g<3> forced laterally to cause the plug member to grip the sides of the socket. The nut member carried by the screwed stem may, alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), be formed with an inclined face corresponding to and in contact with the face g<1> of the member g. The blade g<3> may in this form be made from material which is inherently resilient, the spring c<4> being omitted. The contacts described may be employed in conjunction with the arrangements for securing fuses, cable sockets, &c., which are set forth in Specification 455,559.
