Abstract
An opaque protective coating on aluminium or its alloys produced by electrolytic treatment in a bath containing a salt of titanium is rendered whiter by subsequent treatment in a solution of a hydrolyzable titanium salt. It may alternatively be rendered water-repellent by treatment with a fatty acid or a salt thereof or a sulphonated oil whereby insoluble salts of titanium and aluminium or soaps are produced.
