Abstract

A mixed polymer or mixture of polymers of vinyl acetate and butyl acrylate is used as a plastic interlayer for laminated glass. Polymerized ethyl and methyl acrylates may also be incorporated. When using a mixture of polymers, one or more of the components may be only partly polymerized, the polymerization being completed after mixing. Solvents, softeners, dyestuffs, fillers, turbidifying agents, e.g. waxes or stearic acid esters, and cellulose derivatives, e.g. cellulose triacetate or tripropionate may be added. In examples, vinyl acetate and butyl acrylate with or without methyl acrylate are polymerized with the aid of benzoyl peroxide between glass plates; and vinyl acetate, butyl acrylate, and ethyl acrylate are polymerized in ethyl acetate with the aid of benzoyl peroxide, the resulting solution after thinning with further ethyl acetate being used to form films.
