Abstract

Articles or layers consisting of or containing vinyl polymerides containing halogen are coloured by applying a nitrocellulose lacquer which contains a small proportion, e.g. 1 to 15 per cent calculated on the nitrocellulose, of a polyacrylic acid ester or a polymethacrylic acid ester. The articles or layers may be made from polyvinyl chloride, after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, or mixtures of these with esters of acrylic, methacrylic or maleic acid, mixed polymerizates of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, styrene or vinyl ethers. In examples, suitable lacquers comprise (1) highly viscous nitrocellulose, polyacrylic acid methyl ester, Crystal Violet, alcohol, butyl acetate butanol, toluene, and the acetate of an aliphatic alcohol of high molecular weight, and (2) nitrocellulose of medium viscosity, polymethacrylic ethyl ester, ethyl acetate, alcohol, butyl acetate, the acetate of an aliphatic alcohol of high molecular weight, and titanium white.
