Abstract

Paste-like compositions are prepared by incorporating in polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride chlorinated paraffin wax and a dialkyl phthalate in which each alkyl group contains from 6-12 C atoms. This paste is gelatinised by application of heat. Phthalates specified are dihexyl and di-octyl phthalates. Copolymers specified are those with vinyl esters, e.g. vinyl acetate, acrylic and methacrylic esters and ethyl fumarate. A volatile diluent such as alcohol or white spirit may be added to the mix to give increased fluidity. Such pastes may be coated on fabrics, paper or other substrate and thereafter heated to gelatinise.
