Abstract
Artificial silks of the regenerated cellulose type and natural silk are delustred by first steeping the materials in or by printing thereon a solution of a soluble stannate, and then washing with hard water so as to form an insoluble calcium stannate in the materials. Pattern effects may also be produced by printing with citric or other acid materials which have been delustred all over. Colours or discharges may be added to the printing solutions. The steeping and washing operations may be repeated, and after each successive washing operation the materials may be treated with sodium carbonate, phosphate or silicate solution.
