Abstract
In the process for the protection of metals against electrolytic corrosion described in the parent Specification, the coating comprises a mixture of free carbon and rubber, which may be applied in the form of strips. The metal, e.g. a cable or pipe, may first be coated with a mixture containing carbon, and the rubber composition may be protected by a metallic covering, which may itself be protected by rubber strips as above. The carbon may be in the form of graphite, wood charcoal, gas carbon or coke. The rubber mixture may alternatively be applied as a paste, by spraying, by electrodeposition, or as a sheath. The rubber may be replaced wholly or partly by a compound, paint or varnish, having a natural gum base such as guttapercha or balata.
