Abstract
297,161. Kirschner, F., and Hess, J. June 23, 1927. Conductors and cores. - Conducting elements for cables are protected against the chemical action of sulphur during vulcanization by coating with superposed layers of different metals of which one is zinc. The first coating is preferably of tin or a tin alloy and the second of zinc. Either or both of the coatings may be effected electrolytically or by dipping in molten metal. When the coatings are deposited electrolytically, the conductor is preferably heated to the melting point of tin or the tin alloy after the first or second coating. Tin may be applied after as well as before the zinc coating, the heating being effected after the final coating. In an example nickel is first deposited electrolytically, then tin; the tin coating is then fused and the zinc coating applied.
