Abstract
455,141. Testing speedometers. WICKENS, A. W., 30, Candover Close, Harmondsworth, West Drayton, Middlesex. April 17, 1935, No. 11849. [Class 106 (iii)] For testing a road - vehicle speedometer against a standard speedometer, the rear wheels of the vehicle are supported on pairs of drums 7, and the motor of the vehicle rotates the drums and the armature of a dynamo 9 coupled thereto, the dynamo being wired to a standard electric speedometer, the reading of which is then compared with the reading of the vehicle speedometer. Alternatively, if the vehicle is fitted with a speedometer driven from a wheel contacting with the ground, said wheel is placed on the drums of the apparatus and the shaft 5 which is coupled to the dynamo 9 is driven through a coupling 14 by an independent prime mover.
