Abstract
454,775. Surgical injection-apparatus. GOLDSTEIN, H., 2419, Davidson Avenue, New York, U.S.A. April 15, 1936, No. 10884. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Class 81 (ii)] [See also Group XI] Surgical injection-apparatus comprises a flexible injection tube 14, Fig. 1, surrounded by an electric heating coil 36 supported independently of the tube to permit insertion and withdrawal of the latter. Preferably the coil 36 is wound, more closely at the top than at the bottom, on a rubber tube 35 surrounding but spaced from the tube 14, and is enclosed by heat-insulating material such as asbestos 37 and a rubber casing 38 sealed to tube 35 at its ends. The ends of the coil are connected to a socket 43 in an artificial resin casing made in two parts 40, 41 held on casing 38 by rings 42. In a modification the coil 36 may be embedded in insulating material, the tube 35 being dispensed with. A thermostat may be used in conjunction with the coil. The tube 14 is connected at one end by a band 19, Fig. 5, to a recessed portion 18 of a nipple 15, the nipple having a conical portion 20 adapted to support an injection needle 26, Fig. 1, or a metal or glass casing 22 having a thermometer well 24 and a needle-engaging socket 25. At the other end the tube 14 is connected through a sight glass 13 and a rubber tube 11 with a pinch-cock 12 to a reservoir 10. In order to maintain the sterility of the needle-supporting end of tube 14 during insertion through the heating tube the nipple 15, Fig. 5, is covered by a screw-on cap 46 having a skirt 47 extending over the tube, which may be further temporarily protected by enclosure in, for example, collodion. The cap 46 has a tapped hole 49 engageable by a screw 50 after the screw has been dropped on a thread 48 through the heating tube, tube 14 being then drawn through the heating tube by the thread and the cap 46 removed.
