453,734. Seat adjustments. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO., 11631, Mack Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Ball, A. P. ; 11631, Mack Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Nov. 29, 1935, No. 33169. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1934. [Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable seat is provided with independently operable means for vertically adjusting the front and rear ends of the seat and further means permitting its longitudinal adjustment. The underside of the seat base 10 is provided a pair of channels 12 each carrying two rollers 13 which bear on flanged runners 15 secured to vertical supporting plates 14. The seat 10 can move longitudinally on the runners 15 and is locked in position by means of a latch 20 and a member 21 provided with a latch 21b the latches 20, 21b passing through slots in the channel members 12 and being spring biassed to engage notches in the runners 15. The forward end of the seat is supported by two rock-bars 40 pivoted to supports at 41 and having teeth engaging pinions 33 secured through clutch mechanisms to shafts 31 which are coupled by a tube 50 and turned by a handle 31b to raise or lower the front end of the seat when required. The bars 40 pass through slots in bosses 25b on the clutch housing 25 and are held in engagement with the pinions 33 by leaf springs 43. The rear end of the seat is supported by an inverted U-shaped member 45 resting on the floor and having its vertical members 45b formed as racks engaging pinions 33 attached to the supporting plates 14 and to an operating member through clutch mechanisms as above described. A pair of springs 48 are secured between the central bar of the member 45 and the plates 14 to counterbalance the weight of the seat. A casing 60 is attached to the channels 12 and moves with the seat base 10 during longitudinal adjustment, stops 61 being provided on the housing to limit the longitudinal movement of the seat. The rockbars 40, 45b are provided with bearing members 40a, 46 which engage the housing 60 and reduce friction during angular movement of the bars 40, 45b when the seat is tilted.
